TROUBLE BOOK CLUB LOGO
CONTRACT GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR TROUBLE BOOK CLUB
DESIGN PROCESS:
ROUND 1
I worked with founder Kit Kuksenok to develop a logo design and the beginnings of a visual brand language for Trouble Book Club - a group of writers, artists, and scientists crafting experiments in fictional worlds. Within the organization’s mission were a wealth of different concepts to potentially craft a logo around. Science, space travel, exploration, questioning preconceived notions, interdisciplinary creation, and sparking curiosity were some of the many ideas expressed by Kit at our initial meeting. I tried to explore as many of these ideas as possible in my first round, and listed the relevant concepts beside each thumbnail sketch.
DESIGN PROCESS:
ROUND 2
The client was most drawn to version 1.5. In the next round I move to a digital format and explore variations on 1.5, including ideas for a full logotype.

ROUND 3
The client chooses a preferred font and style of eye from round 2. In round 3, I explore further variations using those components. Captivated by the look of the comet tail against the black background, I try a version with the comet moving toward the viewer from within the black circle, now reminiscent of a tunnel or wormhole (3.6). This is a slight shift from the original idea, but still on-concept for the brand, and the client loves it!

ROUND 4
I explore variations on 3.6, experimenting with a particular color palette that the client expressed interest in. We eventually decide on the bold minimalism of black & white for the final logo.
