CONTRACT GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR TROUBLE BOOK CLUB

DESIGN PROCESS:

ROUND 1

I worked with Trouble Book Club founder Kit Kuksenok to develop a logo/masthead for &others speculative science/speculative fiction magazine, an upcoming Trouble Book Club project. The client was confident about the visual direction he wanted to go in - a simple and elegant typographic logo that would work well as a versatile masthead. For most logo designs I start with sketches, but for this project I knew that it would be most efficient to go straight to InDesign.

DESIGN PROCESS:

ROUND 2

The client was most drawn to version 15, but preferred the more balanced weight distribution seen in version 7. In round 2, I explore slight font and size variations of “others” that can successfully accompany the chosen ampersand. The client is confident in wanting a one-color design rather than 2 colors.

FINALIZATION:

The client was most drawn to version 9. I kept the bones of that design and made individual adjustments to the letterforms to better match the line quality of the ampersand.
